Long Steel Rail, John Brown's Dream, and Eph Got a Coon (which I uploaded to the archive yesterday).
It's surprising how hard easy tunes can be, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. : )
Working on sounding notes cleanly by "pushing through the strings" and also trying to add small improvisations without falling apart.
Just changed my strings this morning which is always such a treat. : )

I've been off track practicing, honestly due to a combination of work being hectic (12 hour days and weekends) and a death in the family. Still mainly focusing on Soldier's Joy and Little Sadie when I do play. They are coming along nicely and have both evolved to be quite different beasts than the tabbed versions I originally learned. I need to start thinking of a new tune to learn.

Things really do get in the way of practice sometimes--we're moving so I know how that goes--and I really think that's okay. Seems like not playing means different things for people (like us) who long to play when they can't and people who just can't seem to make themselves practice. (I'm sympathetic to that, by the way, because I find it hard to make myself exercise.)
I love that your tunes are evolving. I'm thinking a lot about that with my own playing and it's a really neat thing.

'John Henry Blues' and 'Shaving a Dead Man' in the style of Dwight Diller. Using those super simple tunes to develop my sense of foundation rhythm, then applying it to 'Georgia Buck, 'reuben's Train', 'Darlin' Cory', etc.

rgoad, I've gotta listen to some Dwight Diller after seeing this posted (youtube.com/watch?v=PFHwnXaIyl0). My uncle loaned me one of his CDs when I first started clawing, but it sounds like it's time for a revisit. Good list of tunes you got...maybe throw some Dink Roberts into that Georgia Buck brew : )
Now you're moving too, Cyndy? Hope it goes as smoothly as possible! How's your galax lick on that John Brown's Dream?
G--I am sorry to hear about your family member (hits close to home, my wife and I may be travelling soon for the same reason) and of your stressful schedule. Whose version of Little Sadie have you been listening to? Have you ever tried clawing Hills of Mexico by Roscoe Holcomb? I know you've been listening to that cat

Hi folks - sorry for the quiet spell - doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to get everything done just now - hence have never got round to doing a group update.
after a really good start to the year, playing every day, i had a couple of weeks where i didn't pick up the banjo - the reason was a mixture of day to day stuff, like work, house stuff etc taking up my time - plus i really wanted to devote some time to my other passion - which is writing. it's difficult to keep up both all the time - much as i'd love to. i am back on with banjo now though - have been playing daily for the last week or so - again, have just been carrying on working with rosenbaum's art of the mountain banjo book, including black eyed suzie. it's a tune that's never really taken my fancy before for some reason, but i really like rosenbaum's picked version here.
belated condolences Genford - and hope you are getting bit of time for practice now.
hope moving preparations are going well Cyndy.
ps, rgoad i really love Dwight Diller - in fact i think he's probably my favourite clawhammer player. best Jill
