Hello everyone!
I’ve been picking since 2014 and I’m hooked on bluegrass banjo. I attended the Suwannee banjo camp last year and I’m attending the Midwest banjo camp in June.
I have collected 2 Goldtones and 3 Alvarez banjos plus a Granger archtop from either banjobuyer.com or eBay.
I recently purchased a Jugg I and an ODE model D from a retiree here. He’s 84 and broke his right wrist 7 years ago and hasn’t played since.
The ODE is in mint condition. No wear of the gold plating and even has the original ODE bridge. Sounds very bright and chimey.
The Jugg I (serial number 2574 stamped inside the rim) has heavy oxidation of the metal parts but the resonator and neck are pristine. It also has an Oettinger tailpiece which I’ve never seen before.
I cleaned it up without dismantling the whole thing, put new strings (10-11-13-23-11) and HOLY COW THIS BANJO SOUNDS INCREDIBLE!!!
The OME is also fantastic in a different way but I think think I like the Jugg a little better.
My friend also has an OME double XX and a Stelling Bellflower with a bound peg head and 3 ply rim that I’m planning to buy from him later this year.
I’m so happy to be able to acquire this banjo collection. I’m still can’t believe how beautiful this OME Jugg sounds...
