Ok, I thought I knew what I was doing here but I'm getting confused.... I guess I'm proof that a little knowledge can be dangerous, so it's time to seek counsel from the 'masters'....
I've got 3 Juggs, a rosewood I, a rosewood II and a maple III. All have 11" light top-frosted heads.
The I and II have high crowns and the III has a medium crown. It sits lower of course and looks different but seems to sound pretty good but I'm still in the 'fiddling with it to get it just right' stage and it ain't there yet. I took it over to Ome and showed it to Tanya and Rich and Rich said the height's okay if it doesn't sit too low on the neck, which it doesn't.
All three Juggs have good clearance at the 22nd fret.
So, what's the best/correct head height for them, medium or high crown? Is it just a matter of preference/look or does it really matter and if so, how does it affect the overall sound?
The I and III heads are both new and seem really tight. I'd like to loosen them but there doesn't seem to be much slack.
Dan and anyone else wanna weigh in on this?
