5th Time, Part II

Well, I did have a lot of fun last night, that's for sure.

My favorite part of the night was when we played our last song, Cripple Creek, which we do at a fairly normal speed for awhile, then stop abruptly, shout out a 4-count, and then bust into it at lightning speed. Everybody in the back of the bar watching us started whoopin' and hollerin' and clapping along. That was just an awesome moment for me. I will never forget that :-)

Another thing I really enjoy is the look on people's faces when I first start playing. I ain't just bum-dittying around, boys! I pick that thing! Just ask the two gentlemen who made room for me on the bench outside, where i went to warm up. I was barely into my first warm-up song when they both went "Holy crap!"

(On the otherhand, if there were any other clawhammer players there, they would frankly be quite unimpressed, so take the above with a grain of salt!)

I was still nervous beforehand, but i was really in the mood to play and I felt I had more focus and control this time than all the other times. At last, it really is starting to get a little easier. Just a tiny little bit at a time, but it starts adding up.

I even joked around a little.

I still made plenty of mistakes, but again, nobody cared. (Except me, and i hope I will always care!)

Afterwards, someone told us if we got a fiddler, we'd be a really hot act. I asked if he knew one. I would love to be a part of a string band!

Someone else said "all that old time music sounds the same to me." That made me a little sad, but I can see how it might, if you weren't familiar with it. However, I choose the songs I play very carefully, to try to prevent that from happening.

The sound man recorded everyone and we will be getting a cd soon. I'm afraid it might just burst my bubble. But if it's not too horrible, maybe I can attach an mp3 here for you all to laugh at, I mean, listen to.   :-)

Anyway, sorry for the lack of details, it was just alot of fun and I am going to bed early tonight! Thanks for reading!

	rendesvous1840 says: 3/9/2011 7:23:47 PM Sounds like a good time, wish I coulda been there. My wife says the songs all sound the same too, but if you learn them, you hear the differences. Some have similarities, though.
	David M says: 3/10/2011 12:13:06 AM Well done Laurie...!!! Sounds like you've really turned the corner now and might start reaping some rewards of letting people hear you play..good for you. I take it if there were only four acts that you went up more than once..?..Or did you have to play a longer slot than normal..? Be good to hear a recording sometime if possible, you sound very excited still from the previous night..!! Must have been good. Next you'll be getting a little band together and going round different venues for a few $$..! Best wishes.....David
