Elm Cafe Update

From Paul R on 5/8/2020 5:30:14 AM

The Elm Cafe Open Mic, hosted online by the Skeleton Park Arts Festival, has continued and grown. The original Elm Cafe sessions were once a month, The online sessions (via Zoom) have been expanded to twice a month.

Last night's session went on until midnight, with three of us sticking around attempting to jam - impossible; there's a time delay, but we tried anyway, with predictable results.

Of special interest was the participation of Teilhard Frost, a.k.a. Sheesham Crow of Sheesham and Lotus and 'Son, an amazingly accomplished and hugely entertaining Old Time music act. Teilhard is proficient on fiddle, banjo, harmonica, concertina,  and probably a whole range of other instruments. He also builds gourd banjos. Last night he sang a traditional Scottish song a capella, then played fretless mountain banjo and open-back banjo. He'd just returned from playing in Denmark.

I played guitar, then alternated between guitar and banjo for the "jamming" session.

Thanks to Gary Rasberry, the host, and to the Skeleton Park Arts Festival, usually held on the weekend closest to the summer solstice, but, sadly, cancelled this year. (Skeleton Park is the nickname for McBurney Park in downtown Kingston, which had formerly been a graveyard.) And thanks to all the performers who contributed. We had people chiming in from as far away as the Toronto area.

Nice to hear you're all trying to keep jamming active around there Paul. Like you say, pretty difficult with time delays though..!

Thanks for the update.

All the best..... David

Right, David - just three people jamming away to the noises in their heads! But somehow having a good time, maybe because it's the only way we can make music with other folks.

The best to you, too. As eveyone says these days, stay safe.
