Third go...!! - David M

From David M on 4/21/2011 2:38:41 AM

Well, at the expense of the club's funds and in a selfish kinda way, this was my best experience playing out..!

For some weird reason, only six of us turned up...the lowest numbers last year was about 20 and it's usually around 40-50...odd...maybe their taster of me the last time there put them off coming again as the standard was plummeting.. :-)

We all huddled up one end and it was a blast, I had very little nerves and even sang a bit through every one of my tunes (which probably totaled about 8).

I knew all the others to speak to and we appreciated every mistake and effort for the best part of 3 hours picking. It gave me a chance to experience playing with others out of the spotlight's glare.

Hopefully the experience will carry with me and help me out when the numbers pick up again. It was good that I could hear the others singing along and the guitarist picking with me, his gentle bare finger style complimented mine nicely.

So, an odd night turned into one of the best. Phil, next to me has a great deep singing voice and played banjo and dulcimer. It was good to be so close to a seasoned player and see how calm and focused you can get, very few mistakes and totally at ease with what he was doing.

'Til next time.... Good luck to anyone else planning an open mic spot..!

I have been out of the (banjo)loop for a while. I am still hoping we'll make it to an evening of play and fun, but ... is it always in the same place?

Let me know. We'll be here in FL until the last half op April so I am still optimistic :D

Milli.

Hi Milli... Sorry can't help you with Florida Open Mic nights...mine are in Kent England..!

Maybe Panthersquall 'Laurie' could shed some light on the Florida hot spots..?

MAYBE tomorrow night. We'll see how it goes with my guitar picker tonight. With our (mostly MY) timing issues we sometimes sound like we are trying to play a very bad polka.

Apparently it's easier with another musician..? If a mistake raises itself, the other one just carries on and then you slot back together...sounds easy..! Good luck tomorrow if you play..

Okay everyone, is there anything planned for the Tampa area any time soon? We're still here until the 3rd week of April.

After that we'll be in Vermont but somehow I'm not very hopeful something is going on there. But.. one never knows, does one :D ?
