Everybody's Coming Back

From Paul R on 2/4/2012 12:00:55 AM

Last night (Friday) I was back at the jam after missing a session (the Mrs. took the car to Toronto). I brought five instruments (acoustic and electric guitars, two banjos, mandolin). We didn't have a bass player, so I was prepared to take over (John's bass), when our regular bass player walked in - back from his cruise. So I moved from instrument to instrument, even getting a lead break on the Les Paul - I got a round of applause for that!

We had some other people back after time off, too, so it was like a reunion of sorts.

Two weeks before, BHO member Darren showed up for the first time. I hope he comes back often! he brought his Will Fielding banjo and played songs the audience (and most of the musicians) didn't know. He had the audience's attention. We did an unrehearsed duet on "Boatman". I can't wait to see what he brings to the next jam - banjo and songs.

Good to hear you had a great time Paul, what's your favourite instrument of them all to play..? Sounds like the electric guitar is right up there..

Best wishes...David

Hi, David!

I think the favourite is the one I'm playing at the time!

It's sometimes frustrating to not get a break when I'm pumped for it - that happened a couple of times. I am, however, gradually learning clawhammer backup. But when I (almost) nailed the break on the Les Paul, I felt pretty good. Then they sat quietly when I used fingerpicks on the guitar on Kate Wolf's "Across the Great Divide" (not the Robbie Robertson song).

I just got an e-mail from Darren. He says he's coming back soon. Great!
