Banjo at the Open Mic

From Paul R on 9/19/2014 10:28:15 PM

Tonight at the open mic jam I chose my songs at the last minute, from a handful of possibilities. So, I picked two that I was going to play on the banjo (I play guitar and banjo at sessions). I did "Bury Me Beneath the Willow" and "Old Blue". I cranked up the tempo, too. Why? Because my turn came just before the break, and, if you don't keep the audience's attention, they'll flock to the food table. At least I kept the food rush down somewhat. That meant that I could dash to the food, too, as soon as I'd finished!

Imagine if there was a long time before the break and you had to play extra slowly...!.. :-)

Surely that wouldn't have got up and gone to the table whilst you were playing... tut...tut..!

In a perfect world!

Our announcer said that I was up and after me was the break. Some people want to get a head start.

What was really neat: Someone (another guy named Paul) brought a cake that his girl friend had made and decorated. It was a guitar! Very well done, too. I said that I was going to take it into the kitchen to "tune" it. That didn't go over too well!

It's a lovely thought Paul, Canada has been on my to do list for years. We trout fish and have looked into a 2-3 week break there a few times but not taken it any further yet. Maybe one day..!
