Introduction to Seeger banjo style - Seattle -7/25/26

From phdm on 7/1/2026 9:28:28 AM

If you are in the Puget Sound area and want to get a start on Seeger style banjo playing, I am doing a two hour workshop at the Fremont area Dusty Strings instrument shop on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 11 to 1 PM. I'm attaching a link with more information. It is intended for beginning banjo players.  It would be great to see folks there.

Thanks,

Peter

I am glad to see you are doing this. It is tough to find Seeger style teachers players. I would love to attend but I live in Wisconsin. Do you plan on filming it?

Peter - thanks for your note. This is going to be the first time I am offering this workshop here in Seattle, so I’m not sure I will film it. If it goes well and if I do it again, maybe I would. Interesting idea.

Thanks again,

Peter M.

(PS : it appears that everyone on this Pete Seeger list is named Peter.??)

Whoops - I don’t post often, so somehow I ended up posting this twice. My apologies.

Dusty Strings takes 30%, and currently, I have… 1 person registered. Never occurred to me that it would be a gold mine. Certainly never the goal.

By the way, I hope this event goes well and there are more.

Jeff - thanks for your encouragement. I will have to check with Dusty Strings to see how many folks have registered so far.

Dusty Strings handles the workshop space, online social media and hardcopy publicity , as well as all registration details. They worked with me to design the hardcopy and digital poster that is seen on their website for my workshop. They are the best venue in the Puget Sound area to have any hope of holding a Seeger banjo workshop, as they have been around for something like 40 years and well known in the folk circles. It will be interesting to see how many people today are interested in the Seeger banjo style.

I’ll report back to this site as to the outcome of my workshop.

Peter

Hobo's Lullaby
Linked by Marc Nerenberg 9 years ago: Hobo's Lullaby is a song by "The Texas Drifter" (Goebel Reeves) who was a one-time hobo, turned country singer who specialized in songs about hobos. I first heard this song sung by Pete Seeger.
