The amazing Bill Evans is going to teach a banjo workshop at 7PM, Wednesday, February 12th at our house in Northeast Portland. It's called "Bluegrass Banjo Jam Survival Skills." This sounds like the workshop every post-beginning banjo player wants. Here's what he says about it:
"Find your groove playing with others in bands and jam sessions! Topics include the role of the banjo in a jam, what you should play to accompany others, using your ear to hear chord changes and following the guitar, vamping, roll patterns and up-the-neck backup, using fill-in licks, negotiating kick-offs and endings, and using the capo to play in all keys.
The workshop is open to all levels of students but is ideal for those with one or more years of playing experience – beginners to advanced levels welcome. Tab examples will be provided for all examples and audio/video recording is encouraged."
Bill's one of the rare ones -- one of the top on his instrument, he's also a terrific teacher.
If you want to join us, please email me at clairell@aracnet.com or call me at 503-830-3453. If you've got questions about the workshop format and level, email Bill:bill@billevansbanjo.com. The cost is $40 for two hours.
