What size bridge for my RK-87? Aftermarket suggestions?

From SBPARK on 2/22/2012 10:31:48 PM

I used to have an RK-35, sold it last year and recently picked up an RK-87 that is apparently only a few months old and virtually unplayed. Was more tan I wanted to spend, but I was going to pick up a new RK-35 and a hsc from Elderly, and the used RK-87 was only $125 more than the new RK-35, so I jumpd on it. All I plan to do is replace the bridge with a Snuffy Smith and change the strings then set it up. What is the stock size brisge in the RK-87? I know the stock bridges are junk, and that was all I had to replace on my RK-35.

Also, what other popular bridges would you guys recommend for the RK-87? Thanks!

Mine's an 80, but here's my $0.02.

It came with a 5/8" bridge, standard spacing. I switched it a couple of weeks ago with a Sosebee submerged wood bridge (same height, spacing as the original) and it made a nice difference. Note separation, volume were both improved dramatically.

Congratulations on your new banjo! As the with the others, mine (RK-R85-SN) came with a standard 5/8. You can read about my set up at my home page - this banjo sounds fantastic. The bridge I currently use is a Snuffy Smith, 11/16. I find that once you get the strings up a bit the banjo really opens up. Again, please read my set up info; if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

I use a 5/8 Sosebee on my RK-87. I have Wadsworth on my RK-75 Elite
