What bridge do you have on your RK?

From SBPARK on 2/25/2012 10:31:11 AM

I know that this is obviously a very subjective and a your mileage may vary (YMMV) topic, but I am basically just looking for sugestions/guidance on what briges seem to work best on the RK's. Everyone's ear, set up and idea of the best tone is different, and I will most likely get a bunch of different answers.

I am picking up my RK-87 that i picked up here from the classifieds after work today and my plan is to set it up myself since I set up my RK-35 when I had it last year (foolishly sold it) and had a snuffy smith bridge on it. Also going to put on some D'Addario J60+ strings and dial it in.

Any suggestions or direction is appreciated, as I would like to avoid buying a ton of bridges, amybe limit it to experimenting with 3 or 4. Going to stick with the stock 5/8" height. Thanks.

I stayed with the 5/8" on all of my banjos. I have the stock bridge on my Custom RK-75, a Wadsworth bridge on my other RK-75 and a Sosebee bridge on my RK-87 SN. I use D'Addario J61 strings on all of my banjos. I bought a few Snuffy Smith bridges to experiment with, but have not tried them, yet!

I stayed with the standard 5/8" also, did a Katz Eye, a no-name spillway bridge, a german made bridge with bone in the string area, then a Snuffy Smith, stayed with it. All of the aftermarket bridges sounded better than the one that came on it.

5/8" medium Moon, with a heavy Moon on the way

Just put the heavy Moon bridge on today and it reduced the overly bright highs but kept the volume on my RK-OT25 which have been a nagging problem since I installed the Renaissance head. I'm a happy camper because it sounds right (to me anyway) and I think you would be surprised by the sound coming out of this no tone ring gem.
