Roger's "Skip to My Lou"

From Rich Weill on 10/30/2014 9:00:47 AM

Roger's students should get a kick out of this.  Click here and listen from about the 33:50 mark to the 36:30 mark.  At a 1969 festival, Roger is asked to play the first song he ever learned.  He says, "I know what it was because I teach it all the time."  He then plays his basic incomplete-forward-roll version of "Skip to My Lou," followed by his "now I would do it like this" version.

It is part of Fred Robbins' collection -- frobbi.org/picking.html -- more specifically, part of his "Ken Landreth Collection": Carlton Haney's Camp Springs/Banjo Workshop. You can also do a "custom search" of Fred's "Bluegrass Picking" page for anything with Roger in it.

Linked by Tom Hanway 10 years ago: Today, use of either English or French symbolises social and material success while use of a living Celtic language symbolises powerlessness, backwardness or clannishness.
