anybody know what Ralph was playing in 1958? I have a CD from this year , unbelievable tone !

	Buzzbomb says: 11/24/2017 2:10:23 PM If the Style 5 is the iconic one I'm thinking of (wreath pattern inlay) - he got that in Sept '62 from a guy in Sacramento. The cover to their first King LP 'The Stanley Brothers And The Clinch Mountain Boys' (King 615) may give the best clue, as it was recorded 30 Sept/1st Oct 1958:- clinchmountainecho.co.uk/disc/klp615.php Ralph mentioned in interviews that the sound he got was more in the way he picked his banjo, rather than the banjo itself. The Masters Of The Banjo (and some of the archived forum threads) have more to say on that!
banjokus says: 12/15/2017 1:09:31 PM "Clinch Mountain Backstep" turned me on to Ralph's style in about 1963. I found "Hard Times" quite unique with its chord changes, along with "Mastertone March. Then of course the Brothers' "Orange Blossom Special"... the best version of that tune.
