From sharikane on 3/3/2017 8:30:26 PM

Does anyone have any leads on getting my hands on a flattened bottle gourd? Thanks much!

The only way I got one was to grow it. That way I got many!

Thanks for posting. I live in Michigan, and I was told that our season is too short here to get a usable size. Did you by any change get any extras that you'd be willing to sell one of?

I live in Sydney, and that's a very long way from Michigan sharikane. Anyway I do not have any left now, but I did make quite a few banjo's for my collection.

The amazing thing is that when you grow them they do not all conform to the pattern that you are expecting. One of mine ended up with a ball on the end about 6 inches in diametre and a 2 inch round "stalk" that was 4 feet long.

The rest of the gourds varied wildly also, but I did get a handful of very usable ones. It is really quite a fun thing to grow them.

As far as your climate is concerned I have no idea, but Sydney does have long summers, long days and it is humid and hot. They do grow well here. Best of good fortune sharikane.
