Wow

From Judith511 on 11/9/2017 7:02:07 PM

I am new on here and listening to some of the clips folks are playing. Talented people on here. So I am a beginner....started playing daily August of 2016 although I have had the banjo for awhile. I played the guitar as well when I was younger and still play although not as much as the banjo. I am looking for useful suggestions and a friendly place to ask beginner questions . :)

Judith, Welcome! Being a beginner isn't a terrible thing to be. It's a lot of fun. You only get to be a beginner at something once, so enjoy the discoveries and surprises and sounds.

Wayne, I love your comment. Being a beginner at something is very special. Experts and masters often try to cultivate a "beginner's mind" in order to advance their art.

Revel in the start of your journey, Judith!

Thank you for your replies. Being an adult beginner can be challenging as one is used to already being accomplished at things but it is great to get support on the learning journey :)

Kind of like @FretlessFury is saying, we're all beginners at something, but the process of learning is the same for all of us. We all experience joy, frustration, doubt, triumph in our learning. So whatever you're going through, everyone else has not only gone through that in the past, many are going through it now, even if they've been playing a while. There are plenty of adult learners around, too, so there are many here who know what you're experiencing first hand. You have all our support.

I am a beginner as well! It is great to have other people to keep your morale and motivation going, and to sympathise during the challenging times. As an adult learner I am gaining so much more insight into playing my banjo everyday.
