Once again pickn5 has linked to a bluegrass post that is of interest to clawhammerers and other non scruggs players.

In the absence of a playing forum dedicated to practice across styles, this is an excellent place for such discussions.

Personally, as an early beginner I find the metronome helpful in 2 areas.

1. It shows weak areas. You cannot whip through easy sections and slow down difficult sections when using a metronome. This points out sections you need to isolate and practice.

2. It keeps you slow and 'perfect'. Perfect practice makes perfect. The metronome prevents speeding up which can lead to mistakes being burnt into muscle memory (actually in the brain) that later require fixing.

	Judith511 says: 11/12/2017 7:27:03 PM Well tonight I used the metronome for my practice. I used a couple of songs that I had learned...one easy and one harder. It went well. I am trying to pick the sting each time it beeps. I have it set at 100. Am I doing it correctly? Thanks. Judy
	AndyW says: 11/13/2017 12:33:15 AM The way I use it is every quarter note gets picked to a beep/click. So if you are playing eighth notes, the first of every two notes. If you are playing 16th notes the first of every 4. As for bpm speed that depends on how good you can pick. As fast as you can play perfectly I would say.
