What is the meaning of this? In RSB on approx. p.202-203 for example, Shortening Bread and June Apple tabs, both have some fractions written where he has otherwise put fingering. I tried to search through the book for an answer and may have missed it. I also tried emailing him at the email address he put in the book but got no indication that he ever received my question.

Are these fraction referrals for fretless banjo players to blend a sound between frets because it sounds cool and they can or is it something else?

	StuartJohn says: 11/21/2017 9:19:06 AM Look like slides to me, but I'm not familiar with the songs. I would guess they indicate sliding in from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd fret. So you hear the slide into 2, or 3 but dont sound the 1 or 2. Like a picking slide but in reverse. I'm probably wrong, but worth a guess.

	StuartJohn says: 11/21/2017 9:36:42 AM Think you're on the money Wayne. Grace notes show in Tab as grayed out or lighter than the tab notation, so I'm pretty sure you are correct. Very quick notes used to enhance the song, and fit into the melody without disturbing its flow.

Actually, even if you have, you can safely ignore them :) They're an ornament; they don't carry the melody and can be added or left out as your skill or desire permits.

	AndyW says: 11/24/2017 1:38:58 AM In guitar tab the symbol / is often used for a slide. So I'm in agreement with Wayne that they look like a grace note, but I would also hazard that the intention is to slide them in.

	AndyW says: 11/24/2017 1:45:16 AM I found grace notes an essential part of my very short lived attempt to learn blues/boogie woogie piano. But that was playing at a slowish tempo compared to banjo. The idea of slipping them into a full speed fiddle tune seems almost impossible to me.
	WayneConrad says: 11/29/2017 12:19:13 PM @AndyW Playing the banjo at all is almost impossible. When I think about the precision and speed of it, it's inconceivable that a person could do it. But we make it possible, and then add more impossible things to learn and make possible in their turn.
