In my musical journey I was fortunate to find, "Clawhammer Banjo from Scratch," which provided good direction and 12 songs to focus on. Now the Double C and Double D keys are in my repertoire. Before that I was simply downloading random tabs and not learning much. Moving on ...

Why do authors not make sections in their books on learning/playing other specific keys? Who wants to retune at every page turn? Also, what about presenting songs, a song, in several different keys to compare.

Learning the neck and using movable chords - Has anyone seen a chart actually showing what note the bar chord or others are at the 8th fret for instance? Tony Spadero has done some with that in RSB, thanks Tony. Beyond this I need guided direction through song tabs using these chords up and down the neck to get enough experience and knowledge to really begin taking them for a drive on my own.

Any book suggestions for me?

	WayneConrad says: 2/7/2018 11:40:21 AM About chord charts: Don't bother with them. Really. There are too many to memorize. Learn the three major closed chord shapes, then learn what chord each shape makes up and down the neck. That last part does involve some memorization, but it's not too painful. Then, you learn how to modify the major shapes to make, for example, minor chords, augmented chords, 7th chords, etc. With all that, you won't have to memorize how to make a D minor. You'll know where to make a D major, and you know what shape to put your fingers in to make a minor chord at that fret, and there you. Also, you learn the relationship between the shapes for common chord progressions like I/IV/V. Once you know the relationship between the shapes, once you find the I chord, you can play I/IV/V all day long without even know what chords you are playing (really!). So please, don't get a chord chart. You'll be shortchanging yourself.

	WayneConrad says: 2/7/2018 12:28:33 PM The Banjo GED book has the little charts showing you chords, so you'll see the a chart for each chord _shape_. For example, you'll see a chart showing the three different closed shapes to make a minor chord. What you won't see is a separate chord chart for Dm, Em, Fm, etc. The book reduces the amount of memorization needed by teaching you a little theory and some patterns.
	AndyW says: 2/9/2018 12:37:48 AM If you are going to go to the effort of learning moveable chords, I'd do it in g tuning. That way you can utilise the multiple resources out there already written for bluegrass players who like to play up the neck.
