Been a while since I checked in with the group and gave a progress part. Don't worry I haven't given up. In my last post I talked about how I just started learning banjo and how I've been taking lessons from my dad, we don't have the time to do lessons together every day but we try our best to do it as often as we can. I also talked about how I have zero stringed instrument experience whatsoever. I come from a very musical family and I've always been intimidated by my talented brother and father's skills so I never picked up an instrument myself.

I've been practicing now for About 4 months and I still find it very enjoyable, often making myself late for work because I lose track of time playing around on my banjo.

So far I've been working on both clawhammer and 3 finger style and I'm torn as to which I should invest more time into. I don't have a bluegrass banjo so maybe clawhammer is best for me now. I've learned simple versions of Cripple Creek, Boil them Cabbage Down, Worried Man's Blues,You Are My Sunshine and just started working on Foggy Mountain Break down all in 3 finger style, I just started learning some clawhammer on I'll Fly Away. I'll try and record some short videos of me playing and maybe you guys can give me some advice.

	n1wr says: 3/18/2018 2:01:45 PM You are very fortunate to have your dad there with you. Cherish every moment you have with him. My ada is gone. Every day I look at his picture, or pick up his guitar that he left me, or in some way get reminded that he is gone - I kick myself over and over for not spending more time with him. What style did your dad play? If you have the opportunity to get his tutoring - that's where I'd be going. It will make him feel good, and your ability to learn will be strengthened by the connection to your dad, and the frequent counseling. Don't miss that opportunity. You can always pick up the other style down the road. Good luck to you. Keep us up with how you are doing.

	WayneConrad says: 3/18/2018 8:58:24 PM I think I would switch to the style your dad is best in, since he is your teacher. Soak up his knowedge. There are (I think) more three-finger teachers in the world than there are clawhammer, so if you decide to pick up three-finger later, you'll have a better chance of finding one. But since dad is already good at clawhammer, you have the golden ticket already. I would learn first what dad does best first, and pick up three-finger later if you still want to.

	AndyW says: 3/21/2018 6:19:19 AM Go with whatever style floats your boat. Go on youtube and listen to a load of banjo play. If you intend playing solo, listen to solo playing. If you want to play with a fiddle or a group, listen to what suits.
