Near jam speed

From AndyW on 8/31/2018 10:32:22 AM

Well 'Old Time Jam Machine' speed anyway.  I think the backing tracks are probably at the low end of the speed spectrum (though some are nippy).

It's took a bit of work on slow spots for a couple of tunes, but I now have 6 tunes I can jam with. [Angelina Baker/Arkansas Traveller/Fortune/Old Joe Clark/June Apple/Cluck Old Hen].

Over the Waterfall I am working on as it varies a bit from the fiddle. My version of Soldiers Joy, although fast and clean enough doesn't seem to 'fit in' with Josh Turknetts fiddle version. I'm going to have a go at finding a readonably paced you-tube fiddle version to try and play along to and find out if it is just me or not.

I still have work to do on Spotted Pony and Year of Jubilo to bring up to speed. Spotted Pony has always lagged behind for me. Probably due to the vicious circle of avoiding practicing it.

I've also printed out lyrics to multiple songs and am attempting to sing and play. Keeping the clawhammer tune going is a bit more difficult than strumming guitar chords, but just more practice (as always) required.

Neat progress Andy, and great focus. Re the vicious circle: How well I know it!

I've had a lot of trouble learning one person's version of something and then finding out that every other recording varies from it so much that I can't follow it. That can be really frustrating.

Soldiers Joy now sorted. Miles Krassen had changed the melody in the last measures of each part and this was completely throwing my sense of timing. I can now play-along a simplified version with the original core melody reinserted.

Or I thought sorted. I've made yet another change as I think I had the melody ever so slightly wrong. It sounds much better with the fiddle now.
