A progress report

From Junior_co on 12/18/2018 6:53:03 AM

So, Since my last post a while ago, here is where I'm at in my attempt to learn my first ever instrument.  The Banjo.

I took a private lesson a while back and tinkered with the info given for a few months.  Lots of off and on time with a few simple tunes to practice.  Little Star, a major scale progression, and a few other things like this.

Since then I've taken a Claw hammer 1 and 2 group class at a local music school...  Found that since I live between my place and my SO's place, I wasn't practicing as much as needed.  So I now own a second banjo.  My first banjo was free to me as I found it in the basement of my girl's parents.  It stays at my gals place.  My second and brand new banjo is a Deering Artisan Americana.  It goes to my class and lives at my place.  So, now i get to bug everyone in my life regardless of where we stay the night!

I now have a number of songs to work through during my practice sessions that the tabs were given to me by my group teacher.  Plus I've pulled the tab for a song off here for a personal song to learn.  I try to run through each of the songs (plus the various varriants) ~ 5 times each plus practicing the bump-diddy switching between the 5 different chords I've been shown (or need to learn for my personal song)

I'm not going to be able to take the 3rd Claw Hammer group class (scheduling conflict) So I'll try to take a few Private lessons with the same teacher...  Feels slow, at times but as my instructor has said, when you go back to the first song, and play it (still poorly!) but it's easy to get through when at first it was nearly impossible.

Still enjoying the Banjo, and am glad I chose Claw Hammer as it seems to fit my personality much better...

A second banjo makes a big difference. That's a great improvement to your musical environment!

I wouldn't worry too much about having to miss course 3. The hard work after all comes between any lessons.

Keeping picking. It sounds like you have a banjo that can take you a long way!
