Banjo and Harmonica

From pickn5 on 5/1/2019 7:38:27 AM

I've decided that when learning a new tune on banjo, I'll learn the same tune on harmonica. Learning Wildwood Flower from a William Nesbitt lesson video Scruggs style on banjo and straight melody on the harp from the Harmonica Primer. When I can play both well, I'll post a video.

Learning the tune on the harmonica sounds like a fun idea. Are you going to play both bluegrass banjo and harmonica at the same time? That sounds difficult.

That will be interesting and should get your brain working and making new connections!

What @Northl wrote times two. What I wrote sounds discouraging, which isn't what I meant.

I know you are bluegrass not old time. But there is an episode of 'Get Up In The Cool' featuring Old Time Harmonica. Also, if you have access to google music or the likes, one of the early 'Boiled Buzzards' albums has harmonica instead of fiddle.

I think it's a great idea if you can do it, especially if you could back yourself on banjo whilst playing the harmonica melody/singing.

Good Luck!!!!!(Or should I say get in plenty of practice, no such thing as luck).

Thanks all for your comments. I doubt that I would ever be able to play both instruments at the same time. Singing is out of the question as I sing in the key of off! My idea is to play a break on banjo, then harmonica switching back and forth. When learned well enough, I'll play along with a backing track.
