Been learning Fred Cockerham's Roustabout using a banjo newsletter tab by Bob Carlin. The tune was the easier bit, much harder is putting the lyrics to something where the tune doesn't really contain a straight out melody all the way through. Above are a couple of practice sessions on the verses, warts and all.

	AndyW says: 6/15/2019 1:00:04 AM I've started on the chorus. Although extremely simple, I'm finding it much more difficult than the verses.
	AndyW says: 6/15/2019 3:27:14 AM Doesn't help that I wiped out both my middle and index nails yesterday and am having to use a pick. Still.......Good practice for the pick.

Clinky, clunky, nasty. What's your experience? Do I just need more practice with them, or get used to a different sound?
	AndyW says: 7/4/2019 2:19:34 PM I am using a turned round bluegrass pick which I have dremeled and shaped to mimic my nail. The tone is surprisingly pretty ok when worn on my middle, terrible on my index. All about angle of attack I think. It does catch occasionally in an upstroke for me at present.

	AndyW says: 7/4/2019 4:01:40 PM It came pretty quickly and naturally. The pick allows my middle nail tone to rival my preferred index. Unfortunately I have had a noise complaint which means I am limiting banjo volume, and that includes only using the pick when necessary so I've not used it much over the last couple of weeks.
