Hey fellow 'roadhogs',haha. Good to see you guys here. Im looking forward to having a 'safe' haven for us guys to talk openly about things we all understand and appreicate. It will be good to escape the 'masses' on the forums for a change and say what WE want to, how we want to without fear of being gag tackled by that cast of 'experts' we all know so well, from the forums.

I was a little worried about joining a group that would accept ME as a member haha! For those of you who don't know me too well, I did play pro for 20 years - that was the only job I had - and I travelled all over the US. Looking forward to sharing more of my perspective and hearing about yours!

Actually Laurence and I covered the same territory out W. playin with the same musicians back in the 80's. I was drumming in the RT66 band nationally and I would have to guess that we probably crossed paths.The homebase in Alburquerque had jams about 4-5 nights a week we attended during time off and When we first met here on BHO , we were naming some of these cats we'd played with and found we had a few in common.Think of the odds that w'd be on a BANJO forum 25 yrs later creating music together never knowing about ANY of this till after the fact!....Small World!

Yeah, that was wild when we figured out we knew so many of the same people - Buzz, Ronnie, Sandy, Rick(steel) and Rick Phelps(I bet the list could go on) - yet we never (as far as I know) actually met!

Yeah, there was a time back in the 80's and 90's when you could make a living as a club musician. Clubs had live music 5, sometimes 7 nights a week. I did a few stints where I played 35 consecutive nights (at $60 a night). People used to ask me if I practised. Or what I did during the day(?)

Ive done club gigs but was never able to do them consistently enough. Im guessing the changes in genre was the reason. I jumped back and forth alot.

Hi John, and a big Hi to all the other members of this group. Thanks for the welcome and thanks for setting it up. Having become aware of some of the issues that have affected people recently has made me reticent to post at all, particularly as I've been very busy and don't have the time to defend myself if I got into an argument. Looking forward to chewing the fat here though.

Interestingly enough, the snipers seem to have quieted down on the BHO in the past few days.
Perhaps Eric had a word with them.:-)
I started a thread about the Nashville Numbering System, and Eric actually chimed in with a positive post about it.
Maybe the tide has turned.
Maybe it is too soon, but if you guys ever wanted to post on the BHO again, we could form a mutual aid society--supporting each other if the snipers attack.
I'm not pushing it, because you guys have a lot more history with some of the doofuses than I do, but the attitude there over the past few days is much improved.

Hi Laurence, you mentioned "Rick (steel)". as someone you used to play with. I play pedal steel, and I'm curious. What is Rick's last name? Was it Rick Price? What band were you in at that time, and what were you playing? -Dave

Dave - it was Rick McGrath(I had forgotten his name temporarily) I think he is the first guy I ever saw play a 10 string. I was in a band called Three Legged Willie. I did not name the band! This was in Albq, we held down a gig at the Holidy Inn. I played Strat, banjo, sax.
