Hi all. Here's some information about the next Andy's Banjo Workshop (No.4) which will take place on Saturday 25th March at the Red Bull, Church Lawton (ST7 3AJ). It's near Kidsgrove in Cheshire.
The aim of this one-day banjo workshop is to develop a better understanding of the story behind, and the art of playing in, the melodic style. We’ll be studying melodic scale patterns, melodic blues runs and chromatic runs, then we’ll use bits of all of them to play two well known tunes in the melodic style, popularized by the very young Bill Keith. The all-inclusive cost for nearly seven hours of tuition, refreshments throughout the day and a hot lunch is £40.

Workshop Programme
10.00 – 10.30 – Welcome- tea/coffee.
10.30 - 10.45 - Setting the scene - Introduction to the course content. Discussion around individual requirements from the course
10.45 – 11.15 – The story behind the melodic playing style and how it dovetails with the Scruggs and Reno (two finger) styles
11.15 – 11.45 – The influences of Bill Keith and Bobby Thompson on the melodic style
11.45 – 13.30 – Melodic scale patterns (tab support)
13.30 – 14.15 – LUNCH (hot food)
14.15 – 15.10 – Melodic scale patterns – continued (tab support)
15.15 – 16.00 – A study of Sailor’s Hornpipe (tab support)
16.00 – 16.20 – Tea/coffee break
16.20 – 17.10 – A study of Devil’s Dream (tab support)
17.10 – Course ends followed by optional one-on-one banjo clinic until: 18.00: End
