Good evening from sunny Rochdale, many thanks for letting a complete beginner join this group.

I have always wanted to play the banjo but life just seemed to have got in the way, anyhow 6 weeks ago I bought a Barnes & Mullins Empress banjo. I love trying to play it even though I am probably rubbish 6 weeks in. I was wondering if there are any societies or groups that meet around the Manchester area where a novice like me can go and get some advice?

I live in Stalybridge, and used to run a Thursday night pick at the Wharf tavern, but with everywhere shut at the moment i dont know what the future holds. There is also a Saturday night jam at the buffet bar in Stalybridge, thats been running since the 70s, and a few Banjo players attend, so hopefully it'll return when all the restrictions are lifted. If there is anything i can help you with, dont hesitate to conact me. Happy Pickin :)

Hopefully the Thursday night club can start again when we are out of this horrible virus. Would I be able to attend even though I am a complete novice? Honestly mate I would need pointers on everything. I have been following a Jim Pankey set of 10 videos on You Tube which are really good for me but there is no better help that watching others doing it in front of you. Hope to meet up as soon as we are allowed. Many thanks Steve
	BlindAndInTheWay says: 4/3/2021 2:52:05 AM I'm in a similar postion as a beginner. I started with JimPankey's videpas and I made a lot of progress. Not all the free banjo tutorials are as step-by-step. Also, check out Bill Nesbott's videos, many of which are also aimed at absolute beginners.
