Hi,

Has anyone here tried refretting their banjo and replacing the nut, and can recommend good suppliers of tools if they have? I've been getting quotes locally around £200 but my Deering Goodtime only cost me £250.

	alfiedog says: 1/12/2022 4:09:43 PM I've replaced a few nut's, even made a few from scratch out of bone blank's. Replaced a couple of frets on an old guitar years ago, but I wouldn't take on the fret. Dressed loads of frets. Easy job with a fret file.

	ping182 says: 1/13/2022 9:30:44 AM I did my Yates my self and if you are handy then you can do it ok but get a good pair of fret nippers and a fret file like Hosco Replacing nut is again something you can do if you copy the current one with a bone nut blank and some nut files
klaatubarada says: 1/13/2022 12:13:42 PM Grand, cheers. I've diagnosed the buzz to be the nut and not the frets as I first thought so I'll try replacing that myself. I'll need to look into the fret tools soon since they're on their last legs as well.
	Waltraud says: 10/16/2022 12:24:50 PM I would have a go at frets on something cheap first for practice, it's not so hard and there are good guides on YouTube from stew Mac etc but it's also possible to damage the fingerboard. I watched a lot of videos first. Good luck ??
