Ok..the kids are wondering what to buy me for Christmas (I cant play the darn instrument yet but may as well collect some stuff as it were) the witty barstewards have started replying to my plight on the main BHO box but I'd rather have a straightforward answer from a UK based noisy plunker...What do you suggest as the best capo for my Goldtone OB250 banjo...Its only a cheap Christmas prezzie from the cubs as I dont want to put them to a lot of expense....Thanks in advance for your replies....
P.S. my initial thoughts lent towards the old skool Chubb but am open to suggestions

Page or shubb, shubb will let you capo passed the fifth if you want, but the page is far better, both come in at around the twenty quid mark or less.

My pleasure...for me it's the page, if you get the page get it right up behind the fret and don't overtighten it, if you get the Shubb, again just have enough tension on the rear lever and no more, otherwise the rubber will cause your strings the sharpen in tone.

I use a Page on my OB250, which is great for capo'ing up to the 3rd fret - and at a stretch can be made to work at the 4th, but way behind the fret... I find it much less likely to dislodge if knocked when playing than my Shubb, which gets used on my other banjo & for the 4th/5th fret on the Gold Tone.
Recommend not leaving the capo clamped on the banjo fretboard when you've finished playing.
I place it either on or just behind the fret & only tighten it as little as possible to stop the strings buzzing.

Nowhere ready fof a capo of any sorts yet but I do like to have things to the fore and also do a little prior homework on the subject and what's more

Well, I've used about every capo under the sun over the years...I don't think you can get any better than the Planet Waves one, cheap as chips, infinitely adjustable, out-of-the-way, as far up the neck as you need. £13 or so.
Great if you want to capo right at the fret.
My Shubbs and Paiges just sit in the case now, lonely and unwanted....

Yes Joe I echo your thoughts exactly....I was always around folks in the seventies who were either using the old elasticated band type strap to capo everything then the Shubb appeared so me being old skool and not really needing to have it around all the time while learning I may get the sprogs to order one from Eagle Music (new C5 type) as they are pretty inexpensive and if I need another as I progress later then so be it...Thanks for your time guys, its very much appreciated...Regards C

Ok, I'll go first, I'm probably not going to be popular but I don't like them too much, don't quite know why, they are made well but the tone is not for me I guess, nor is the feel, I'm far more at home with the Recording king banjos in this price range, or even the top Pilgrim bluegrass model which out beats and out plays them all.

TBH...when I bought mine moons ago it was tilted as more bang for your buck banjo under $1000...I bought one from the states....It is a nice looking banjo, I changed the Head, Tailpiece and Bridge....and had her set-up....and she really rings.....but then again I'm not a banjo expert....now the RK's have come along they seem to be getting rave reviews and folks are gravitating towards them perhaps rightly so....The OB250 is a little harder to play for me than my uncle's Mastertone....not a smooth around the bridge and sliding at the top of the neck...but saying that I like it for all its irks....plenty of grassers have wanted to buy it from me but I wont part with it.....Went I master it (strong statement in the cold light of day) I'm getting me one of them there Deering John Hartford's........one day...hahahaha

One of the guys at my jam plays a deering John Hartford and I sounds and looks great. Cheers for the opinions on the OB-250.
And on the topic! I have a shubb and I really like it.
