Recording King or bust

From conic on 9/26/2015 10:17:44 AM

Hello UK5. I am close to getting another banjo to complemet my goodtime 2 and as I was impressed by Gazwatsons RK 35  I was considering an RK 75 but there are not many distributors around ( Germany and Ireland ) but as I was going past the birmingham bull ring this week and saw a big music store called fairdeal music I popped in and they had stock of  recording kings, they had three in the shop but no RK-75 although their website shows a big fat zero. they said they can order anything in and price match so its looking good.

what I would like to know if anybody has any experience is, is it worth the jump from RK 35/36 to RK 75?

thanks

Hey conic how you doing the banjo in question was an re 60 deco king which is maple the re 75 is mahogany they are both fantastic banjos and in my opinion won't be beaten on sound when set up correctly or price well put together as well all the best p.s. I am in Florida at the moment just thought I would slip that out

Hi Conic that Deco King Banjo of gaz's, is a wonderful sounding Banjo, I have the rk35, and it sound's great. I have played the 75, and 80, and in my opinion the 35 sound's just as good, so i would get a 35. Hope that help's :)

Yo Gaz, sorry it was the deco king... sunny Florida sounds good, we will sort out a local bluegrass jam when you get back and I should have my garage conversion and sound proof completed. darlo and alfiedog, I prefer the sound of the rk36 over the rk35 but I cant feel much between the rk36 and the 75 elite so I think it will be an rk36 with a new fults tailpiece and maybe one of those scorpion bridges. thanks for the help...

Just posted a Vid of Clinch Mountain Backstep played on my RK35, fitted with a Kirshner T/P, and Tim Purcel Bridge. The String's are F**ked, but you can tell how it Cut's :) :)

What is it that almost every player wants to change the Presto that comes with the RK?
It's on my 75 from day one and I couldn't think of any reason to change it for something else.
As you might have guessed, I'm partial to the 36/37/75 mahogany line.
Not trying to take anything away from Eddies great performance: I'm talking personal tonal preferences here.

The Presto that came with my 35 was really thin, and cheap, so thin i thought it might break, so i put a Kershner on, and it sound's good. I would like to try a decent Presto on it now, as i think a Presto open's up a Banjo more the any other T/P. Saying that i dont think i would want this Jo sounding any different :)

Prucha presto are very good quality and fair price. I'd get the 35 personally or 36 for a little more knock / mellow , waste of money on cosmetics for the higher end ones. Try Maloney music in Ireland for a great price, even including UK delivery!!! Enjoy it. I'm getting a Prucha, different story, great banjos.
