left hand finger problem

Hi i'm having problems with which fingers to use on which string with my left hand is there a set rule or can you use any fingers cheers TAV.

	g3zdm says: 5/16/2016 9:23:49 AM For the left (fretting) hand, there is no absolute rule - although there are recommended fingers to use in some chord charts and lesson books -usually worked out from practical experience. It depends on what works best for you , including how easily you can move onto the next chord or next fretted string(s) from the one you are currently on.
	tonytcc says: 5/16/2016 11:46:10 AM If they are partial chords, I would start with the fingers which are used for the full chord. Some books don't say which left hand fingers to fret the strings with, which is one of the reasons I prefer the Janet Davis books, she does usually tell you which fingers to fret with even in the first parts of the tab. Ive only just started playing so i dont want to get any bad habbits,the problem is theres no teachers of the 5 string banjo in south wales uk.

Even if they are not in the south and not teachers, I'm sure you'd benefit greatly from just meeting a few banjo players and comparing notes. Why not check the list and contact a few?
