Hi all,

This December will mark one year since I picked up a banjo, where's that time gone?!

As I'm still new to the world, just wondering if I can have some info on a Banjo Ukelele, are they played like standard ukes just with a banjo body? I don't know much about them, but my bro plays a tenor uke, and was thinking he might like a banjo Ike as well.

	Bad Bernie says: 11/12/2016 10:34:21 PM Look out. I can feel a rant coming….. A banjo uke is a grotesque, ugly little thing, like all the other so-called banjo hybrids. The tenor banjo for example – immigrants to the USA hear a banjo for the first time, and like the sound. They then decide that they can’t be bothered to learn another instrument, and that odd fifth string is confusing. Solution: take it off, tune it like a mandolin, and pretend it’s a banjo. Result? Hideous. Ditto the mandolin-banjo, and the banjitar or guitjo, or whatever you want to call it. Truly ghastly. The fifth string is what makes the banjo. It’s the instrument’s heart and soul, and the source of its unique, joyful sound. If you want that sound, I’m afraid you have to learn the banjo, not just put a new pot on your existing instrument’s neck. The banjo-uke/ukulele-banjo, is for me the worst of the lot, and is responsible for a deep confusion in the minds of the Great British Public, between a uke and banjo. That’s a confusion between the genius of Earl Scruggs and the deeply childish, idiotically sexist and unfunny 1930s songs of George Formby. Fnnnaar, chortle, nudge, wink. When I’m playing bluegrass in public and someone puts in a request for “Cleaning Windows”, it really is difficult to restrain myself from punching them in the teeth. A uke is a uke, and a banjo is a banjo. And how many strings does a banjo have? Answer: FIVE! Sorry folks. Its off my chest now. :-)
