The first 'Andy's Banjo Workshop' turned out to be a great success. Everyone got stuck in and no one fell asleep! The next one will be on Saturday 21st January 2017 at the Red Bull, Church Lawton ST7 3AJ, (near Kidsgrove). The workshop will focus on different aspects of playing styles including frailing, up-picking (Pete Seeger), two finger, melodic, Scruggs and a couple of original hybrid styles. It has been designed to be of interest to anyone who has already started to learn to play the 5 string banjo (minimum) through to experienced players who want to branch out and explore alternative ways to make their banjo ‘sing’. We will also explore alternative tunings such as Double C, Standard C, Open D, G modal and more. It is mostly practical and will, hopefully, inspire players to find out for themselves about just how versatile these wonderful instruments really are. I will post details of the course programme shortly. There are twelve places on each of this series of workshops. For this one in particular, there are nine left. As a heads up, the February (Saturday 18th) workshop will focus on the art of 'listen and play', the 'audio illusion' and joining in a picking session with confidence. There are eleven places left on this course.

The cost of each Andy's Banjo Workshop is £40, which includes 7 hours of tuition, coffee/tea breaks and lunch.

	alfiedog says: 12/15/2016 5:00:28 AM What a great resource these Workshops are for any pickers in the UK. I attended the 1st one, and it was very interesting. No matter what your ability level is, you can always learn something new. Andy is a great teacher, and picker. An added bonus is Kidsgrove Train station is only a 5 minute walk from the venue. I took the Train, and it was quicker, and cheaper then driving (and you can have a beer) :)

In fact I went to my usual jam a week after this workshop along with another picker who also attended the workshop and it was a completely different experience just using a fraction of what we learnt from Andy. We also had a great laugh all day, a jam in the evening in the pub putting what we learnt into practice which was appreciated by the pub regulars. The next day Andy emailed us all an Ebook detailing everything covered in the 7 hour workshop. We also have a digital audio recording of the workshop done by Nick R who is a top archivist of UK related bluegrass performances .. for 40 squid its a steal.
