After the conversion of my WM Whyte laydie to Tubaphone, I had a rim left over and not wanting to waste it, I determined that it could be used to build a new banjo, with a Bacon tone ring sitting atop the Whyte Laydie scalloped ring. I assembled the rim and sent it to Mark Hickler to make a new neck for it (which turned out great). After getting it back I spent some time experimenting and finally settled on a wall height to close the internal resonator into a resonant cavity (similar to the Bacon FF banjos) and after having had it a while I've got to say that this is the best sounding and playing banjo of my herd. Ron and Mark did the building to my design and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I've linked a sound sample of if you'd like to hear it.
