Skillet Head #13 has ruined my collection!

From Foote on 12/14/2017 7:11:40 PM

I've always enjoyed owning several banjos, alternating which one got played.  I currently own 6, including a prewar rb5 and a great early 80's Gold Star.   Then I bought the Skillet Head with the no hole ring.  That was about three months ago and I don't think I've touched the others.   What a great instrument.  Thanks again to Randy Boone and others for their views on the banjo, having played it.  Helped me buy it from Morgan Music from 2000 miles away.

Lloyd, so glad that you're enjoying the banjo......they are special but of course I might be a little bias! Every banjo builder out there has something to offer and in their own way(s) build good instruments, but, there (to me) is a marked difference in a Yates banjo compared to anything else. The playabilty, the feel, the response and the incredible tone that you get from a Yates banjo is second to none in the new banjo world. A person would have to have a well set up pre-war in their hands to rival the sound that Warren Yates is producing.....but as I said.....I might be a little bias! ;) Robby

The playability gets me. I guess it's the frets, but everything sounds sharper, cleaner (pull offs, hammer ons, etc.). I couldn't be happier.

It is so great that you got a banjo that really suits you!

I understand what you mean, they’re really amazing, every one I’ve played has been responsive and powerful with just that combination of feel and tone that makes them great. I have an RS-75 torrefied that has made a lot folks want to make me an offer to buy it immediately after hearing and playing it. It’s not for sale.
