Granada 9562

From meganl on 8/19/2023 10:20:10 AM

Does anyone have experience with Warren's Granada 9562, or other of his Granada style banjos?  I have one on order.

Thank you.

I'll answer my own post. I ordered a 9562 on Warren's recommendation after I explained what I was looking for. I received the banjo two weeks ago and am extremely pleased. It is a great compliment to the Yates 75 that I have. I'm very happy.

Hey Doug, I just joined this group. I will have my first Yates banjo in less than 48 hours (used LM-1) and a Yates RB-75 in about 4 months when Warren finishes building it. Did you get that 9562 yet?

ok, I just reread your post. Maybe I should read more carefully before i ask questions that are already answered.... How is that 9562 sounding after a few months of play?

Casey, I have had the 9562 for 4 months and love it. Both banjos are excellent and I hope you really like the LM-1. My RB-75 is great. Very bold in sound and just a wonderful instrument. I hope you are pleased and enjoy yours as well when it arrives. Thanks for the note!

Doug, that LM-1 arrived today and all I can say is "wow!" I can't stop playing it. It sounds amazing! I don't know what Warren is doing in that shop, but it is something special and I am VERY happy with this banjo.
Can't wait for my RB-75 to be ready

Casey, when it arrives, let me know what you think of the RB-75. I am really happy with mine.

Hey Doug, I hope all is well with you. I hope you were not affected by the fires down there.
I finally received my RB-75 from Warren last Thursday and I couldn’t be happier. It has “The Sound” I have been searching for. Absolutely brilliant. But I don’t have to tell you that…. You already know. So, of course, I am already thinking about a maple banjo from him. I think with a mahogany and maple Yates, plus the light weight LM-1, I probably won’t need any other banjos and can start selling off my ridiculous collection.
How is that 9562 treating you? Is there a noticeable tonal difference between 9562 and the RB-75, or mostly aesthetic?

Casey, I love both banjos. There is a noticeable difference in sound. The 75 is deeper and very resonant. The 9562 is great and has a higher pitch and more twangy, but outstanding, sound. I trade off based on which I believe provides an appropriate sound for the piece I am working on. For example, I have been practicing the intro, verse and chorus for "The Weight" by The Band and I use the 75 because I like the deeper base sound. However, when I play "Dixie", I use the 9562 because it has a sharper, twangier, pitch. Would a person not familiar with the difference in the banjos notice it? I don't know, but I do and I am very pleased with both because of it. I am considering a Skillet Head, but I have to do more research to be sure that it sound different from what I have. I am very please with what Warren has produced for me and if I do buy something else, it will be a Yates. I am glad you are pleased with your 75. It would be hard not to be if you like banjos. It's great hearing from you and be sure to contact me if you have more questions. If you pursue a maple with Warren, let me know what you choose and what you think. Please stay in touch!

I don’t know how I keep mangling that and posting the same thing multiple times. It seems like every time I come back to this page, it reposts what I posted before.
I’m going to message you privately.
I still love my RB-75. It’s the only banjo I play now. All my others have been put away

CaseyJones: I spoke to Warren about a Skillet Head last week. He said it is similar to the RB-75 but a bit bolder. It has a heavier tone ring. We discussed the 75 and Granada and he said they were his top two. Glad you are enjoying your 75. Once you play a Yates, there is no going back. Doug.
