From momo on 11/12/2011 1:32:46 PM

The Yates Ron Stewart Banjos now being produced  have a standard size rim and a plated tone ring. its interesting how the product is changing.

I owned a RS maple with the fat rim and unplated ring and have just bought a new RS mahogany with the new stuff you mention. In my opinion the new setup is much superior to the old, it has a much drier and nasally "pre-war" tone with more sustain.

Lester, Did Ron record a sound file with the new setup for you? I'd love to hear it if you care to post it. Thanks.

I have the new setup in the RS Walnut #002 and compared to a friend's older setup mahogany ( which is awesome in its own right), I agree with Lester. My walnut is the one I'm going to keep the rest of my life.....the tone, construction, butter-soft neck, and the fact that it's the first Yates RS walnut with the concentric rings and more attractive headstock inlay (it's the exact one the Yates website currently has photos of in its advertisement for the walnut).
I really admire Warren and Ron in their philosopy of continuous improvement of an already fantastic instrument. I think it's great they're making a classic right out of the box.
