I plan to enjoy it John! As to the sound clips.....I'd really like to be able to do that, but I don't have any recording equipment and even if I did I wouldn't have a clue as to how to post it.

Robby - the sound clips of this banjo sound great. I hope you'll be as happy with it as I am with my Ron Stewart mahogany. It's good to see someone with such a super good ear for great tone impressed with these Yates banjos.

Thanks Bribak and Chris for posting. I truly am excited to get this banjo and start putting it thru the paces. It's gonna be fun! Also very timely too as the band that puts up with me and lets me play with them are gonna start a new CD project sometime right after the first of the year and I already intend to use "Son of Skillethead" on some of the project along with my old Style 3 and a "mystery" banjo that I have. Thanks again for posting guys! Robby

Hey, I just thought of something that I need to clarify before any confusion might start. This new banjo from Warren and Ronnie will be a Yates Skillethead model. I don't want there to be any confusion on the CORRECT model name of these. These have come about from Ron's absolutely awesome original PW powered Bowtie that he calls Skillethead. I am one of those people who assign names and personalities to my banjos........I guess Ronnie is too huh? Anyway, all my banjos have their own niche and their own name, Son of Skillethead is what I have named my Skillethead Model Yates, it's my way of paying homage to Ronnie and the "real" and original Skillethead.
Ok.....back to twiddling my thumbs, rubbing my hands together and impatiently waiting on the UPS guy, it's gonna be a LONG fews weeks till delivery!

Robby, I don't know if these are some of Warren's "secrets" - but if not - can you tell us what differences, other than cosmetics, this model has from the Ron Stewart models? Also, is thiss going to be maple or mahogany?

Bribak, Should there be any differences in this model compared to a Ron Stewart model, I would not be the one to reveal that, that will have to come from Warren or Ron until I became privy of that info and cleared to talk about it. What I CAN tell you is that these banjos are built as close to Ron's banjo Skillethead as possible and they will be mahogany just as the real Skillethead is......I wouldn't think that there would ever be a maple version of this banjo, but then again if a person wanted one I don't know that Warren would turn down that request although that would take the owner away from the original vision of the instrument.....Warren or Ron would also have to answer the wood option question. It is my understanding that these banjos were to make their debut in March but it seems that Warren let the cat out of the "lab" a little early! HA! Anyway....at their official release I'm sure that all questions will be answered at that time. I'm not trying to be evasive.....just honoring Warren and Ron's right to advertise and talk about the specifics of THEIR banjo.

Robby,
Thanks for sharing what you know. I honor Warren's right to disclose info in his own good time and your loyalty to his privacy. I'll be anxious to hear the details when he decides to share them. Warren is really doing some wonderful things with his banjos. I feel extremely lucky to have one.

Hey guys, I can tell you, this model is as close as humanly possible to the Original PW powered Skillethead, ring composition, weight, and also neck wood, and RIM wood. Even neck profile is identical, as well as completely hot hide glue on every part except binding. PW Skillethead has a few things that make it sound like it does, and we have tried to duplicate each one of those. PW Skillethead has a PW Flathead sound that is all it's own, which I love in any PW Flathead. It hit my dream mark of what one should sound like more than any other I've played, and our Yates Skilletheads have THAT sound, dry, hollow, pop, in your face, STRONG!!! And the new Yates Skilletheads have the extra fat rim like the original. Mine sounds like a young twin brother to the real PW Skillethead.
