RS Sound Samples (maple vs. mahogony)

From gospelman97 on 1/15/2012 12:15:02 PM

Hi Yates owners,

I'm interested in a Yates Ron Stewart model banjo for my next purchase.  I have listened to the two sound clips on the yates website and the one on Mr. Stewart's website.  I'm hoping that some of you owners wouldn't mind sharing the sound sample that Mr. Stewart made with your banjo with me.  I am trying to decide if I like the maple or the mahogony version better.  Right now, the maple is winning.  I already have a really great mahogony banjo (Hatfield Buck Creek).  Thank you in advance for any sound clips or suggestions that you may have.

gospelman,

If you go to my homepage, I have an audioclip of Ron Stewart playing my mahogany.

Thank you, tadams! That banjo really sounds good. I looked around and found a clip on Beardog's homepage as well. Almost all of the clips I have heard are of mahogany banjos except for the one file on the yates website that's maple. If anyone else has files on their homepage, just let me know and I'll check them out. Thanks!

Just so you know, there is one more choice in our banjos that is not listed on the site but it is here banjohangout.org/topic/223718 It is mahogany. There are many sound samples out there if the owners will look for them and they might. Email me personally and I will see if I still have any of them in my computer. Most of them are recorded here anyway.

Thank you Mr. Yates! I just sent you message before I read your comment.

I wanted to thank all of those who shared their soundclips with me. A special thanks to George for sharing his maple soundclips with me even though he said that he is technologically challenged. I've made a special playlist with all of the samples and they are all great! I am still leaning towards the maple because it has that extra umph to it. I'm planning on heading towards Hickory this summer to play one in person. Thanks!
