My New (used) Yates RS

From Dave_RB75 on 3/26/2012 12:20:27 AM

I've had it about 5 days and can't hardly put it down.  It's an RS mahogany with the customary peghead inlay, but a simple "leaves-and-bows" style fingerboard inlay and a 20-hole unplated tone ring.  I love it-- the tone, action, and responsiveness just inspire you to play new and more difficult stuff.  My adult son (also a musician) says I'm playing better and faster than he's ever heard me play before, so I guess it's already worth the money!!  Everyone who has heard it says the same thing...WOW.  I'll try to post a picture, but suffice it to say I couldn't be happier.  Thanks Ron, Warren, and Rod.

Dave, I know the feeling. I read a post a few months back with the subject being the Yates RS's and how great they are and also how friendly the neck is.......one guy replied that a banjo can't make you a better player, but I don't think he knows how wrong he is. How freindly the neck is, how easy it is to navigate up and down it, and how forgiving the neck is in minimizing mistakes of placement is a real thing. Heck, even Jim Mills talks about how the Mack Crowe makes him a better player and Sonny Osborne talked about how his Granada did the same for him.
Of my three 5 strings, I tend to pick up the Yates Walnut #2 more often, especially if my RB3 or Blackjack aren't being nice to me.
The Yates is truly a pleasure to own and play.
