JE Dallas banjo history

Hi all, a google search revealed a interesting exchange from about 5 years ago on old JE Dallas banjos. 

We have one retrieved from the loft in a bit of a sorry state which, having watched the BBC programme The Repair Shop, we are inspired to have restored to playable condition.

It bears an inscription 'Presented to Frank Haigh by JE Dallas 1888' and the serial number  is 1045. Any help on discovering it's history would be much appreciated.
