My best sounding Instrument is the one I am still searching for!!

Sunday, August 21, 2011

Hello, Ya'll.

I am a Newbie Banjo Picker, and have been enjoying all comments, and information on this site, as well as being entertained. So, I have decided to join, so I may access the Member information I have been missing. At 69, my fingers hurt, and Rigamortis sets in quickly, when ever I stop pickin for a day or 2, and I don't expect to ever be good enough to Jam with a Band, but I do enjoy making a Joyful Noise,..........while terrorizing my neighbors. I don't expect to contribute much here ,as I play by ear, and never have  had any music training, and I hate taking lessons, as I have to do things slow, and easy, on my own time schedule, so YouTube and Earl Scruggs and Roy Clark Books and CDs, with Free You Tube lessons from various Teachers fit me just fine presently. Thanks to all the Old Time Members who are gracieous enough to share freely. I appriciate it very much..

Jim

I retired in 2010 after working 50 years in Electrical Chemical Industry. Traveled U.S. as a Sales Engineer, marketing and servicing chemical and environmental equipment. My professional background is Electroplating. Played an old Ovation guitar, off and on, for entertaiment only. Got really interested, several years ago, when I started playing again, after being idle for 30 years, but have always envied Banjo Players, which I never could get the hang of. I never could finger pick, until I started a little on the slide guitar with Bottle Neck Slide. But, now, with this site, YouTube, online tuning sites, well, here I go again. So far, it ain't easy!! But, I'm getting pointers off this site, and really appriciate the valuable information shared by those that have been playing for many years, as well as the struggles newbies are having, such as myself. I have always played by ear, only, and alone, so never jammed with others. Never learned much, either. But just enough to stay interested.
