My journey with the banjo ground to a halt after the summer of 2014. By late April 2015, I had bought a fiber arts business and was working 6 days a week, and in October of that year, I was also teaching 2 college English courses for the local community college. That's why I went to college for 9 years, after all. Now, I work at my shop 5 days a week and I teach 2 days a week. Life has slowed down, but only slightly. I'm going back to Sewanee to continue my M.F.A. (creative nonfiction writing) in June, so I'll only have the shop open on the weekends and I won't be teaching at all for the community college until next fall. This gives me ample time to pick up my banjo again and resume my lessons. I've already started practicing again, under my dad's guidance, and I've found that what I learned back in 2014 hasn't left me completely. My fingers are toughening up again, but the inside of my thighs are taking a beating from the heaviness of the instrument. All the same, I'm hoping to stick with it this time. Clearly, banjo isn't like the other instruments I've learned to play over the years. It's going to take some time...with consistent practice... to get to where I want to be. That's okay, though. I'm in no hurry. I'm finally at an age where I just want to enjoy the ride.

Grew up hearing my dad play the banjo, so I figured it was time for me to learn too.
