Tomorrow, it's off to East Lansing. I'm looking forward to Midwest Banjo Camp. I'll post pictures, maybe even movies, when I return.
Folks who check in on my blog might be wondering why I had a bad day yesterday. First of all, that's very sweet of you to care. My dad got some bad medical test results yesterday, and we're still trying to find out the extent of the problem. I doubt I'll write about that extensively here--this is my music hobby site. But thanks for caring.
From the Jim Hall Archives
When I jammed with Jim and Dennis yesterday, Jim hit me with some CD copies of old Frenzy Brothers tapes, including one he labeled "Live from Walker Tavern--1994." For the life of me, I do not remember this gig. Timmy was still alive and with the band. He plays all the banjo, but the disc starts with a clip of me playing Timmy's Reiter banjo. I owned the Harmony by then, which I practiced on at home. Tim let me play his banjos between sets (if they were on the stands, I was asking him to play... he was always so cool about it).
So here's me playing Timmy's banjo 13 years ago. I'm actually surprised at the playing here. When Jim put it on for me, I said: "That's Timmy." He said, "No buddy, that's you."
The track is in my MUSIC folder and is titled "Steve in 1994." Right now it's in the A-slot in my folder. [I put an "A/" in front of the most current music clip so that it's on top]

My Instruments:
I play clawhammer banjo, as well as flatpick some guitar and string bass. I love country fiddle tunes and songs along the lines of the 1920s and 1930s "old-time" and "hillbilly" recordings by The Skillet Lickers, The Carter Family, Uncle Dave Macon, Earl Johnson, The Stripling Bros, etc. I'm not actively playing banjo these days, and my presence here is kind of inactive. I'll always keep my banjo, though, and you can bet I'll be back here some day.
