Banjo Dave Pethtel passed away March 28, 2023. Born 19/26/50 he grew up in Madison, Ohio on the shore of Lake Erie. He started playing banjo in the mid-late 70's after serving in the U.S. Army and sent to Viet Nam.
In 1980 he and guitarist George Hanna teamed up and started The Silver String Band that spanned 43 years and became a musical constant at wineries, festivals and watering holes across Northeast Ohio.
Dave's composition of a tune named "Columbia's Dream" was a tribute to the Columbia space shuttle disaster was regularly performed in their sets. That tune eventually made its way onto a subsequent shuttle mission.
On June 17 Dave was celebrated and remembered by many of his friends and family members, not only for his musical talents, but also for his outstanding personal attributes and ability to enjoy life wherever he roamed.
He is and will be missed by many.
