My father was born and raised in Kingston TN, he moved to Chicago prior to me being born. But all of his side of the family still live between Johnson City, Knoxville and Kingston. I remember as a child visiting my great uncle Jimmy, whom willed me his 1954 Gibson ES-125 and got me started playing guitar. One of my favorite childhood memories was going to the barber, well here in Chicago they have barbers, but certainly barbers in the Southeast issued a little different hair cut than here in Chicago. So I'd walk outta there with a buzz cut, which I though was so cool, the barber, who my uncle Jimmy was close with played banjo, the guy who swept up the hair trimmings played fiddle and the other barber played mando and of course Jimmy played guitar, after my buzz cut, they would have a BG jam. Now being 10 years old, it was not appreciated as much as it was when I turned 16 years old and was able to sit in. I am the only member of my family who plays music and Bluegrass is and will be apart of my family forever. My son is an infant, my wife says I have serious issues as I play him to sleep regularly, or put the IPod on shuffle between Bluegrass, Classical, Country, Blues, Jazz etc. Charley, hopefully will find the appreciation I did for music in general and love playing music as much as we all do. I am now 36 years old, been picking since 10, rarely find music I cannot appreciate. As of the past few years I have concentrated on playing banjo, we are lucky to have a few great music stores here locally that host jams and work shops. It's great to find musician friends to jam with. I am easily approachable and encourage anyone of any talent level to get ahold of me and lets jam. Troy
