Started by playing guitar at about age 15, took private lessons for about a year. Then started playing around in some bands. One band needed a bass player so I picked up on playing the bass. Loved the style of Victor Wooten, who led me to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Fell in love with the sound of Bela Fleck. Kicked around the idea of learning banjo, but instead took Jazz history and piano classes in college. Finally at age 28 I decided to start playing the banjo.
