Unaccountably drawn to the banjo at the beginning of this century, having struggled to make any headway on the guitar. Was lucky to get a work placement in the US that coincided with Banjo Camp North in 2001 & 2002. Jammed regularly with good friends made there, busked at Harvard Yard, was given an outlet to show off in smoke-filled bar rooms by Somerville honkytonker Dave Sammarco, and took some lessons in an MIT lab from Perfesser Greg Liszt. Kept jamming & busking once back in the UK, started a Liverpool jam session and band the Merseybillies. Nine months teaching English and playing banjo in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Returned to the UK and playing banjo for country rock pop combo Charnock & Russell. Now in semi-retirement in Cumbria, except for occasional Merseybilly revivals on the Manchester and Chester Folk Trains, and (hopefully) jamming in the pubs of Longford during the Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival.
