I guess this is a well-known tune, but I don't recall playing it much. I'm on the Bicentennial with Nylgut strings.

This song is from Art Rosenbaum, I'm in double-C tuned really, really low on the tackhead banjo I made last year.

I believe that I learned this from the same Contra Dance LP as Avalon Quickstep and Going Uptown, although there was slightly different version called My Ain House on an Electra Sampler LP that I listened to as a child. I am in G on my bicentennial banjo.

This is based on Charlie Walden's playing of Wilson's version.

I did some recording this weekend and had some fun. One of the tunes is one that I've been scraping away on the fiddle for the past few months. Northland is from disc 4 of volume one of Billy Mathews 500 fiddle tunes project. The first 300 tunes are available for sale on his web site www.banjobilly.net. I have been picking up a good number of tunes lately from this collection, and this one is an original tune of his. He has given me permission to post this version. I am on the WL-250, and in aDADE.

A couple of weekends ago I attended a workshop by David Landreth. Great workshop, and if I think of it I actually use some of his fingering. A middle-aged dog can learn some new tricks. This is, by the way, an Illinois tune, tune number 173 in Dear Old Illinois.

This is an excerpt of a tune played by Harvey (Pappy) Taylor., Effingham, Illinois. This is from the set of CDs of field recordings associated with the book Dear Old Illinois. Although Taylor called it Old Mother Flanagan, it is a different melody from the common tune. I've included one full AABB part (with a little on either side). I think that in the full recording Taylor did not always repeat the parts.
