Yup. What happened was, it was already weak before I acquired it. Talk about a heart-breaker. One of the sections around the hole was starting to give, and before I noticed it, it was too late. The previous owner may have bent them back too much, or the owner before him. The 70s Nationals are a little stiffer, but more brittle than the softer but stronger old Nationals. One day, just picking in mid-tune, it snapped.
